My artistic journey has inspired me to visually tell stories with my art, presenting them in an abstract way to connect people with their emotions, their spirit and with each other. I share my images on this website, hoping it might re-kindle in you a love of color, a bit of happiness and a passion for creativity! I encourage you to find your own avenue of artistic expression, in whatever form you choose! If looking at all the images isn't quite enough for you, there's always the obligatory written items that go along with the artwork.
Here are links to my pertinent artist info plus a couple of recent interviews. Enjoy!
My earliest memories are of being curled up in a chair, paper in my lap and pencil in hand. I drew on whatever I could get my hands on! In addition to that built in passion I also gather inspiration from daily walks in the woods, by surrounding myself with vibrant art supplies and from emotions that I flow into my art very intuitively. These influences can be seen in my photography as well as my artwork, and you will also glimpse my love for text, texture and patterns too. I'm motivated by curiosity to explore different media, adding a bit of everything I learn to the next piece I create.
I feel I was placed on this earth to share the beauty of what is (via photography) and what can be (with my art). As I wander with my camera in hand I can just relax and be "in the moment", noticing details, light and subject matter that might otherwise be passed by with no thought. In the studio I love to explore a variety of artistic techniques and began referring to myself as a “randomly creative artist” - a title I have fully embraced. Much of my artwork is built up in layers of color and texture, with flourishes of small details added to them before they are declared "finished!"
My art has been accepted to over 70 local, regional, national and international competitions and exhibits. This includes exhibits in over a dozen states across the US, including ones in Cincinnati, Chicago, Washington DC, Phoenix and New York and over 20 solo shows of my work. I began in portrait photography 20 years ago. I have participated in five residency programs, received two Indiana Arts Commission Grants, been in numerous local news publications and have published two coloring books. In 2016 I was accepted into the Indiana Artisan program.
