"Freshly picked blueberries at Blueberry View Artists Retreat, 2011"

I had a delightful experience staying, working, creating and visiting at Blueberry View Artist Retreat in Riverside, Michigan. The majority of the work on the website dated July 2011 was created during my stay there! I've also been featuring information about the retreat and the new artwork on my blog so be sure to catch those posts if you haven't yet!

I enjoyed a two-day internship at Belmont High School in Decatur, Indiana in October. I had the opportunity to interact with several classes and did a two-day art project with the AP Studio Class. To see some of the student's work from that day read this blog post!

I was invited to return to "The Tin Shop" in Breckenridge in September of 2010 for another residency! (A recap of my first visit is shown below.) I was so thrilled to be returning and enjoyed exploring the area again and spending my days renewing my art and myself. The blog posts during my stay recaping my adventures and explorations are interspersed throughout the blog from September through January!

"Peak 7" Mixed Media, created in Breckenridge, CO, April 2009

Residency at "The Tin Shop", Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge is an outstanding example of a Colorado mining boomtown. With historic buildings in town dating from 1862 and ending in 1942, the town has developed into a world class community with many fine amenities. It is located in the heart of the Ten Mile Range, allowing a mountainous wilderness to be located at it's back door.

The Tin Shop is a restored historic building that has a small studio apartment on the upper level and an artists studio on the main level. The vision for the Tin Shop is to provide a space for artists to work on their medium of choice, while providing public interaction in the form of open studio hours and workshops to compliment the growing Arts District. I traveled to Colorado to be the guest artist at "The Tin Shop" in April of 2009. While there I continued work on my newest mixed media pursuits, presented a workshop on Artist Trading Cards, explored some new artistic endeavors and toured/photographed the local scenery. Details about my visit there are posted on my blog. I feel honored to have been choosen for this residency - it was a life-changing experience!

Landfill Art Project

I have been included as an artist in the Landfill Art Project. Landfillart is an international effort encompassing one-thousand-forty-one (1,041) artists to claim a piece of rusted metal garbage and create fine art.

The project began in Pennsylvania where the founder, Ken Marquis, hoped to get 41 artists (one from each county) to "think green" and transform old hubcaps into pieces of art. Since that time it has expanded it's goal and he now wants to include at least one artist from each of the 50 states as well as international participants. Approximately 80% of the landfill canvases will be completed by professional artists, the remaining percentage will be created by a cross section of culture, including individuals with special needs, children, emerging artists and the financially disadvantaged. The third phase of this project will involve publishing a book on the project showcasing all one thousand forty one (1,041) completed "metal canvases." The fourth and final phase will involve choosing 200 metal canvases that adequately represent the project and create a traveling show. The book and traveling show will publically portray the global art community's effort to positively impact the environment through repurposing previous metal waste into great landfillart. For more information and updates you can visit the website at www.landfillart.org.

My hubcap is complete and has been shipped to Pennsylvania! Here is an image of the finshed piece, titled "Organic Geometry":
