Classes, Workshops, Instruction

I offer one-on-one or group instruction for photography, digital art, alternate printmaking techniques, artist trading cards and mixed media/collage. Most instruction is geared for teens and adults but it can be modified for younger children too. I can instruct from my home studio and/or on location. I have on-the-job experience with special needs children and have done art projects with special needs groups and individuals through both Noble of Indiana and Best Buddies of Indiana. I also present workshops and demonstrations for art clubs, libraries, schools and other groups. Dates, times and cost for instruction vary according to content, group size and need. Current Classes

I am in the process of forming classes & workshops for Fall 2010:

For this fall I am building all classes & workshops around YOU and your schedule! Below is a list of topics (along with costs/time requirements) that I would be excited to share with you. At this point (mid-August) I am available to present these topics between October 5th and November 16th on the following days of the week:
Tuesdays (daytime or evening) except October 19th
Thursday (daytime or evening) except October 7th
Friday (daytime or evening)
Saturday mornings, afternoons or day-long, except November 13th.

It's up to YOU what the schedule will be! Here's how it works:
Step 1 - Choose the art you'd like to create from the topics listed below
Step 2 - Pick a date from those listed above
Step 3 - Round up a friend or two and we'll be ready to go!

Be sure to choose your dates early, especially if you are interested in a Saturday class, as my schedule fills up quickly with portrait photography on those days. For most sessions at my studio there is a minimum of 2/maximum of 4 participants per session, unless otherwise noted. If you would like me to present a session at your location I require a minimum of 4 participants. Once you've reserved your date I will publish the information on my blog and open it up to others that might be interested in joining the class.

Topics to choose from:
Gelatin prints - Create printmaking projects using gelatin as a printing plate. This is a fun way to explore printmaking without having to use a press. The plate is basically just a 1/4 to 1/2" deep slab of thick gelatin. Visit the printmaking section of this site to view some sample images of gelatin prints or visit this link to see a step-by-step process post on my blog. Cost per person, including all supplies, $45. 3-4 hours per session.

Intuitive Collage - Create a large background and follow your intuition as you select & place collage materials on the background. Using a pre-cut mat as your guide, move it over & around your piece to find exciting smaller compositions for framing. Here are links to blog posts about this process, with sample images: Creating A Background and Collage Series. Cost per person, including all supplies & mats for framing, $45. 3-4 hours per session.

Mandala Art - Loosely translated mandala means "circle." These repetitive patterns are found in nature (biology, geology, chemistry, physics and astronomy). Many different cultures and religions use the mandala form as a spiritual symbol and creating mandalas is also used as a form of art therapy. Making a mandala is a very soothing process that can be enjoyed by anyone. Again, here are some blog posts/sample images for you to look at: Mandala Art and More Mandalas (and an endorsement!) Cost per person, including all supplies and a mat for framing your favorite piece, $15. Approximately 2 hours. Minimum of 4/maximum of 12 participants for the mandala class.

Mixed media on illustration board - These projects can be done as abstract art, landscapes or other styles as each participant wants. It's fun to peel away and add to the composition until you are happy with it. See a step-by-step demo HERE! Cost per person, including all supplies, $60. Allow 5-6 hours.

Mixed media wall sculptures - I love making these! Using a variety of materials, including wood, metal & paint, you can incorporate anything into them and just let your imagination run wild. View samples here: Mixed Media Wall Sculpture and Sample work from previous workshop Cost per person $75. Allow 6-8 hours (can be divided into two sessions).
