Mixed media is such a wide-open area to explore, essentially art can be made of anything or any combination of things. What a freeing definition to have when creating! I find exploring, experimenting with and combining items from so many different sources intriguing. While producing mixed media artwork I use a wide variety of tools and processes. I find the “hands on” experience of physically shaping, coloring and assembling mixed media pieces to be a fulfilling, sensory experience. Regardless of the creative method used, the final result is typically multi-layered in appearance. My work features geometric shapes, organic elements, or a balance of both and my subject matter is generally abstract.
The experience of capturing the photographic images used in my digital art allows me to spend time observing and connecting with nature. Small details and textures seize my imagination, begging to be photographed. Following those encounters with hours spent digitally layering, modifying and enhancing the images to create my digital art satisfies my cerebral nature. My subject matter begins as images of nature but is transformed into the abstract. The final result is often highly detailed and layered in appearance.
As I gain experience, not only artistically but in life as well, my artwork continues to evolve. It has become more complex, with more texture, detail and dimension. I challenge viewers to not only enjoy the imagery of my artwork but to find evidence of things hidden within, waiting to be discovered.
